In a love-letter to classic platformers and with a lick of paint to update proceedings, New Super Lucky’s Tale has arrived today on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
This is the version of Super Lucky’s Tale that launched on Nintendo Switch in 2019, but with a host of new features that make this a worthy second try if you’ve previously played it. Or the definitive version if you missed it first time around!
But what’s new I hear you say? Firstly, brand spanking new levels, and redesigns of previous levels and better control of both Lucky and the camera – now fully rotatable! New Super Lucky’s Tale has also been revamped in all the right places with overhauls to story, dialogue, cinematics, music and lighting.
New Super Lucky’s Tale also features all the post-release content that was only originally available separately for Super Lucky’s Tale.
Unfortunately for Lucky, he has been teleported into a different world, away from his sister and other fox guardians. He is transported into the Book of Ages as Jinx the cat tries to steal it away from Lyra, Lucky’s sister. Whilst inside the book, Lucky must find the missing pages scattered across several worlds, and defeat Jinx’s underlings – known as the Kitty Litter.
New Super Lucky’s Tale is a love-letter to classic 3D platformers that have all experienced a renaissance of sorts in the past couple of years. Expect to be transported back to playing games such as Spyro, Banjo-Kazooie, Crash Bandicoot and Super Mario 64. Just without any of the difficulty associated with these – looking at you in particular Crash – which makes it perfect for little kids and big kids to enjoy together!
Expect the usual mix of traditional platforming along with lots of little extras including 2D levels, mini-games and puzzles and – not too scary/challenging – boss battles.
New features include:
- A wide variety of platforming gameplay, from story-based adventure levels, 2D side-scrolling challenges, mini-games, puzzles, and boss battles
- Thousands of collectibles to gather, tons of secrets to discover, and a cast of memorable characters
- A colorful collection of costumes and outfits to collect and wear while adventuring
- Runs at 4K and 60fps on Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro
- Designed to delight and challenge players of all ages and skill levels
New Super Lucky’s Tale is available to download right now through Xbox Game Pass but is also available to buy priced at a cool £33.49. Don’t forget also, that Super Lucky’s Tale is also part of the Xbox Play Anywhere Initiative; buy once and play on both PC and Xbox One.
Will you be buying it for the nostalgia of games of old, or as a distraction for the kids in the last couple of weeks in the Summer Holidays? As always, let us know in the comments!
