Ready to head to hell once more? Diablo II is being resurrected!

Blizzard Entertainment have had a busy few days, what with celebrating their 30th anniversary AND having dropped two new content packs to the modern day masses. But honestly, it’s probably the confirmation that they’ll be bringing Diablo II back from the dead which has us most excited. Later in 2021 we’ll be seeing a full remaster of the classic releasing on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC.

For many Diabo II is thought of as the most liked and memorable of the Diablo titles, and so it’s with great excitement that we await what Blizzard have done to the iconic game.

Faithfully remastered, bringing in detailed high-res 3D visuals and Dolby 7.1 surround sound, all whilst keeping the timeless gameplay, Diabo II will hit Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC later in 2021, with both the base game and its Lord of Destruction expansion in tow.

An upcoming PC technical test is available for anyone wishing to go down that route, but with Diablo II right up there with the best role-players of all time, and just so managing to build in some seriously good dungeon crawling mechanics too, whether you have to wait for it or not matters little – once it is here you won’t be able to resist.

So what should we expect? Well, Diablo II: Resurrected welcomes back both the veteran heroes from yesteryear and invites a new generation of players to experience the game’s sinfully dark storyline, thrilling loot chase, and visceral hack-and-slash gameplay, this time complete with modernised visuals that take advantage of the latest gaming hardware.

It’ll be found taking the classic elements and then mixing in a host of modern opportunities, like full 3D physically-based rendering, dynamic lighting, revamped animations and spell effects – all stunningly delivered in up to 4K resolution. Further, the 27 minutes of classic Diablo II cinematics are being remade shot for shot, all from the ground up whilst the memorable soundtrack and haunting audio have been reworked to allow for full Dolby 7.1 surround sound.

“Diablo II was a pivotal game for Blizzard and millions of players around the world. With Diablo II: Resurrected, we’re excited to bring this classic back to PC and also to consoles – with cross-progression on supported platforms – so that players can relive their memories, or experience Diablo II’s timeless gameplay for the first time, on their platform of choice,’ said J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment. ‘With the new high-resolution audio and video in Diablo II: Resurrected, the game is as fun and engrossing today as it was twenty years ago.’

Nicely Blizzard are promising to let gamers experience the best of everything though, all via the press of a button – if you prefer to take in the original experience at any time, you’ll be able to. And even better is that quality of life improvements are being added too – shared stash, anyone?

They aren’t stopping there though. Diablo II: Resurrected will be found featuring seven highly customizable character classes for players to choose from – the Amazon, Barbarian, Necromancer, Paladin, and Sorceress from the core game, as well as the Assassin and Druid from the included Lord of Destruction expansion. And this will mean that players will be able to make each character their own by selecting skills and talent builds, crafting and socketing items, collecting complete gear sets, acquiring unique arms and armour, assembling Rune Word combinations, and much more.

We’ll of course keep you updated to how the remastering of Diablo II goes; once a full release date of Diabo II Resurrected on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC is known, we’ll bring you it.
