As many of you will know, UK centric video game retailer GAME has constantly been in financial trouble over the last few years. Today, things aren’t looking much better for the firm. The UK high-street is changing and the majority of people are shopping for their games online at places such as Amazon UK or purchasing their games digitally. GAME has announced that it is likely that it will be shutting around 40 stores. Our thoughts go out to the workers as they’ve already earmarked 27 locations marked for closure.
“We are working closely with landlords throughout the UK to ensure that we do not have to vacate the 40 locations which could lead to a number of job losses,” reads a company statement. “However, we are facing a challenging retail market and GAME with its extensive retail footprint, needs to restructure and landlords need to work with us in setting realistic, fair rents.”
