Activision Blizzard Alumni Networking Community for Former Employees Coming Soon

PC, World of Warcraft

Only open to those who have been previously employed by any part of Activision Blizzard.

While it serves as yet another round of comically bad timing following Activision’s recent layoffs, alumni groups are not necessarily pointless hangouts for former friends. In industry which frequently works on referrals, keeping in touch with former colleagues can serve an important networking purpose and be immensely helpful for getting into new projects early – Blizzard in particular has a long history of former developers coming together years after departing the company, even launching brand new businesses made up of alumni.

Dreamhaven is one of many companies started by former Activision Blizzard developers.

Being a part of alumni platforms such as Enterprise Alumni takes that a step further than your average Facebook group, operating similar to LinkedIn as a cross promoting recruitment hub, with the idea of helping corporate recruiters and qualified talent find each other easier. Enterprise Alumni hosts several articles extolling the virtues of corporate alumni relation programs, while boasting 20% job fulfillment, though how much that means specifically to any former Activision Blizzard employees remains to be seen.

Enterprise Alumni “enables organizations to expand talent pools, drive sales and promote their brand.”

So while the website makes it sound like a hangout for prior employees to “stay connected and keep on gaming!”, at least part of the reason to launch an alumni initiative on a platform such as Enterprise would seem to be jobs networking. Although that probably doesn’t make the idea any more palatable to someone who has lost their job, it at least serves a somewhat more practical purpose for any alumni out looking for one, rather than masquerading as a space to “never stop gaming” with other former co-workers.
