On February 16th, 2021, Netflix announced that they will be releasing an 8 episode anime series based on DOTA 2.
The show will be helmed by series showrunner and executive producer Ashley Edward Miller (Thor, X-Men: First Class, and Fringe), and animated by South Korean animation studio Studio MIR (The Legend of Korra, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Voltron: Legendary Defender).
“Fans will love how we’ve imagined the DOTA 2 universe and woven together an epic, emotional, and adult-oriented story about some of their favorite characters,” said Ashley Edward Miller. “The cinematic animation, acting and music are simply next level and I’m grateful to Valve for supporting our creative ambitions.”
The Netflix logline is as follows:
“The sweeping fantasy series tells the story of Davion, a renowned Dragon Knight devoted to wiping the scourge from the face of the world. Following encounters with a powerful, ancient eldwurm as well as the noble Princess Mirana on a secret mission of her own, Davion becomes embroiled in events much larger than he could have ever imagined.”
An ingame countdown update promoting the anime was pushed to the DOTA 2 client early Tuesday evening along with the announcement trailer.
According to the ingame timer, the teaser trailer for the anime will release at 1 PM Eastern Standard Time on February 19th. A “main” trailer will be released on March 1st at 7 PM EST, and the series will premiere on March 25th at 2 AM EST here.

The lighting reminds me a bit of castlevania.

Tbf between the league and the Anime I’m kinda getting what I’ve been wanting for the last two years, there’s finally some promotion and financial stability in the t2 scene.

0:28/29 is a guy without context swinging a giant sword. Might or might not be Sven, although the other recognizeable characters look a lot more like their ingame equivalent, so I assume this just is the older DK (seems to be an order) who appears later on shortly.
Mirana is pretty sassy.

I’m not sure the same people who do random lines for a video game are the people you look for if you do a high budget TV series. While I think that the voice acting in Dota is for the most part excellent, it’s probably very different trying to give your character character within a few sentences compared to speaking full dialogues in a somewhat realistic manner in a connected story.

Given Valve involvement, I don’t get why they didn’t contact the original voice actors. That said, all new voices still seems in line with the characters. Except Davion., Why does he sound like a 17 yo? And where is his shield?
They probably did contact them. Doesn’t mean it worked out time and budget wise.
